Suzuki unveiled their first cruiser motorcycle in India in the form of Intruder 150. The motorcycle takes the name from their mighty Intruder M1800R and M800 twins. The motorcycle is touted to be a modern sporty urban tourer which shares most of the underpinnings with the Gixxer 150. The Intruder might be designed by keeping ergonomics over aesthetics in mind. Here's an overview of the all new wicked motorcycle from the Japanese stable.
Design and looks: The design of the motorcycle seems to be an amalgamation of almost all Suzuki motorcycles out there. The rear end resembles the mighty Hayabusa, the tank and extensions seems to have come from the B king. The front headlight section seems to be a new design, yet doesn't abide with the overall design of the motorcycle. Though the motorcycle would look macho and big in flesh, we think that the drool quotient will surely miss out here.
The headlight assembly is a unique and never seen before design which sits low and below the handlebars. The seating position is low with raised handlebars and relaxed foot pegs. The tank is large with big extensions hiding almost half of the cylinder head. The tank extensions also feature fake air intake ducts just below the large Intruder logo. The rear end looks large enough to be mistaken for a sub 500cc bike, though the tyres tell you the lame truth. The wheels and tyres come directly from the Gixxers. The exhaust canisters are large and meaty with dual ports, and gets a mild chrome panel.
Engine and Performance: The heart of the Intruder 150 is borrowed straight from the Gixxer which is an air cooled 155cc mill. The engine produces 14.8 bhp at 8,000 RPM and 14th Nm of torque at 6,000 RPM. Though the Gixxers are now fuel injected, the Intruder will be available only with a carburetor. The size of the airbox has been increased along with an additional tooth on the rear sprocket to help with the touring abilities.
The exhaust is reportedly in a different tune, probably to get a bassy sound resembling its elder siblings. As we know with the Gixxers, the engine should be extremely smooth with slick gear shifts. Top speed and efficiency might reduce due to the additional weight and a different rear sprocket. Top speed can be expected at around 110 kmph considering the extra weight and wind blast.
Brakes, Suspension and Electronics: The Intruder 150 gets 41mm telescopic forks up front and a seven step adjustable rear mono shock which is a first in class. Braking duties are carried out by 266mm single disc at the front and a 240mm disc at the rear. The motorcycle also surprisingly gets single channel ABS as standard which is also a first in class. The wheels and tyres are similar to that of the Gixxers, which are 100/80-R17 and 140/60-R17 respectively.
The Instrument Console is entirely digital, which is also borrowed from the Gixxer siblings. The rider seat is wide enough for comfortable long hauls while the pillion seat is also comfortable with round grab rails at the back. Price and Mileage:
The Suzuki Intruder 150 comes with a price tag of Rs. 98,340 (Ex showroom Delhi). Though the motorcycle has exceptional internals, the overall design might not be everyone's cup of coffee. We also feel the Intruder could have had a higher capacity engine. The only competitor for the Intruder 150 is the Bajaj Avenger 150 which is almost 17,000 cheaper. The Intruder 150 would be one kind of a motorcycle on the streets, with an unique road presence. All we can now do is, wait and watch the percentage of market the Intruder 150 can grab from the Avenger 150.
